Coventry City Council win the IRRV "Excellence in Social Inclusion" award sponsored by Nelson Croom

Nelson Croom was proud to sponsor the award for "Excellence in Social Inclusion" at the Institute of Revenues Rating and Valuation Performance Awards. The winner of the award is Coventry City Council.

Three Councils were short listed for the award; Dumfries and Galloway, Derwentside and Coventry City, all of whom had developed leading edge approachesto social inclusion which had improved the life of those experiencing poverty or deprivation. Together, in the last year they delivered well over £5m to those people in society who need it most and who, in so many different ways are least able to ask for it.

By taking the fear factor out of benefits applications these local authorities are able to help people understand what they might be entitled to and make a claim. Some take mobile "offices" out into the community and help people when they are shopping or visiting the doctor or library. Others have set up multi-lingual phone lines to help those for whom English isn't a first language. Sophisticated profiling of the needs of different local areas means that these authorities can really target these initiatives where they are most needed.

Alan Nelson, Managing Director of Nelson Croom said "It's a real honour to sponsor an award that is genuinely about making people's lives better. All three of these authorities have done amazing work, and we are glad that our sponsorship goes some way to recognising and rewarding them."

The IRRV's Annual Performance Awards were presented by Sir Trevor MacDonald, in Brighton on the 12th October 2006.

The IRRV and Nelson Croom have been partners for several years and together have developed the Euclidian training programmes which are aimed at improving standards in Benefits and Revenues in Local Authorities.
