British Library embarks on e-learning pilot with Nelson Croom

The British Library is developing three courses for UK businesses this autumn and winter with e-learning developer Nelson Croom. The online modules complement an existing programme of workshops run by the Business & IP Centre at the StPancras site in London. The workshops cover a variety of topics on information and research techniques. The London Development Agency awarded the British Library's Business & IP Centre £1 million in May 2005 to help transform it from a successful pilot project into a permanent national resource.

The Business & IP Centre hosts the UK's largest freely accessible collection of business and intellectual property information and is an invaluable resource for businesses. Since the Business & IP Centre opened in March 2006 we have welcomed over 25,000 people through the doors and, together with partners, we have deliveredmore than 2,500 business advice sessions. The Centre has played a part in the successful launch and expansion of many companies.

The first course will be available in December.

"This project is part of our overall strategy to extend the reach of the Library's services to those unable to visit in person. It will also enable us to learnabout the online provision of training and will inform future developments"
Nigel Spencer, British Library

"The BIPC is an exciting initiative from the British Library and we're delighted that Nelson Croom has been chosen to provide the e-learning pilot. Our technology is a hosted solution which means that learners only need an internet connection to get started. So we can spend our time working with the BIPC on the content and get the pilot up and running quickly."
Alan Nelson, Managing Director, Nelson Croom
